Johns Creek Rotary Club Packs a Punch Against Poverty with Back-to-School Drive
Johns Creek, GA: The Rotary Club of Johns Creek North Fulton, in collaboration with local Girl Scouts and community volunteers, will be packing school supplies at the Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, July 31, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. This event is open to all who wish to lend a hand in supporting students in need as they prepare for the new school year. To show our appreciation for your help, snacks will be provided.
As students in Johns Creek gear up to return to the classroom, the cost of school supplies is weighing heavily on families. Backpacks, clothing, pencils, notebooks, and more can total up to $897 for an average American household. What was once a fun shopping trip has now become a financial burden for many parents, exacerbated by inflation. The price of school supplies has soared alongside the costs of food, gasoline, and housing.
For some families in Johns Creek, these expenses are simply out of reach. The Rotary Club of Johns Creek North Fulton is stepping forward to alleviate this burden by donating fully stocked backpacks to students at Autrey Mill, Taylor Road, and River Trail middle schools, as well as to each elementary school in Johns Creek.
These backpacks, brimming with supplies, are made possible through the generous contributions of our sponsors and will be given to at-risk students identified by school counselors.
“With the challenges of low income or homelessness, the impact on a student’s education can be profound,” stated Brian Weaver, Co-Chairman of the Rotary Empower the Future – Provide the Tools. “By providing these essential supplies, we’re investing in the future success of students in Johns Creek.”
The Johns Creek North Fulton Rotary Club is committed to equipping at-risk students with the tools necessary for educational success, which is a vital step in breaking the cycle of poverty for these families. Research has demonstrated that having the proper school supplies can significantly improve classroom readiness, participation, academic performance, self-esteem, and behavior.
